Date of Notice: Sunday, January 19, 2014, Courier Post William P. Campbell, Sr., 86, passed away after a brief illness on January 11, 2014. A resident of Leisuretowne, NJ, William was born in Bound Brook, NJ, was a World War II veteran, and served in the U.S. Army of Occupation in Germany where he was on the staff of the Stars and Stripes. He was a Valedictorian of his class at Florida Southern College, and did graduate work at Columbia University. He taught English and History at Perryville (Maryland) High School, and later joined the New York Times as a manager of the School and College Division. He joined the publishing company, Scott Foresman, from which he retired after 30 years as a school text book salesman. During this time, he also served as President of the Long Island Bookmen's Association. In his retirement, William served as a volunteer for numerous organizations including Virtua W. Jersey Hospital in Marlton, T.O.U.C.H., and AMERICORPS. He also taught courses on the Civil War and Frank Sinatra at Burlington County Community College. William is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dolores Machi Campbell; his daughter Donna Bernardo; his son William P. Campbell, Jr., and daughter-in-law, Deborah Woolf, and his grandchildren from Donna, Jessica and Colin Tuck. He was predeceased by his brother James Campbell, sister Elizabeth Thomas, but is survived by his sister Marie Clark. There will be a brief Memorial Service on Wednesday, January 22, 2014, from 10AM to 12 PM, at the Mathis Funeral Home, 58 N. Main St., Medford, NJ. Interment will follow in Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery promptly at 1PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in William's memory to the Wounded Warriors Project, 1120 G Street N.W., Suite 700, Washington, D.C. 20005, www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
