Richard A. Rogers

Richard A. Rogers, 82, of Medford, NJ, passed away Monday, October 12, 2015, at Virtua Memorial Hospital, Mt. Holly, NJ. Born in Fall River, MA, Rich resided in Browns Mills, NJ before moving to Medford in 1984. He proudly served in the U.S. Army for over 21 years, from 1950 to 1971, retiring as Master Sergeant. His post-Army career culminated in ownership of a Moorestown retail store until his retirement in the early 1990's. Since then, he's been very active in the VFW, serving previously as District Commander of District 11 and currently holding the Judge Advocate position for the Medford VFW Post 7677. He was also the Commander of the Military Order of the Cooties Pup Tent 39 for the past few years. Rich was very active with the Union Fire Company in Medford, where he served as Fire Police Captain, Lieutenant and Treasurer. He most recently also worked as a crossing guard for the Medford Twp. Schools. Husband of the late Linda K. Rogers; he is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Richard J. Rogers, and Michael and Terri Rogers; and two grandchildren, Alex and Sydney Rogers. Relatives and friends may call on Saturday, October 17, 2015, from 10-11AM, at the Mathis Funeral Home, 58 N. Main St., Medford, NJ. Funeral services will follow at 11AM, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains, NJ. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Richard’s memory to the Union Fire Company, 1 Firehouse Lane, Medford, NJ 08055; or to the VFW Post 7677, 317 Church Rd., Medford, NJ 08055.
