Loren Young Johnson

Loren Young Johnson, devoted and beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather and great grandfather of Medford, NJ, born in Henderson, Kentucky on March 13, 1932, passed away peacefully at Samaritan Inpatient Hospice, Mt. Holly, NJ, on Sunday, September 29, 2019, at the age of 87. His parents were Ernest Young Johnson and Frieda Clara McCoy Johnson. He attended Castle Heights Military Academy. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, then earned a Bachelors Degree from Evansville College. He was a career employee of the United States Food and Drug Administration, where he began working as a chemist and retired as the Philadelphia District Director. He was an honored member of the Kentucky Colonels. Lorens talents were numerous. He was a high school basketball star, who got great pleasure out of photographing family events and nature. Throughout his lifetime he became a skilled carpenter, an electric train enthusiast, a fabulous cook and an avid gardener who enjoyed listening to jazz and watching birds from the kitchen window. He has the singular ability to be able to see in others their greatest potential and to help them achieve it. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 65 years, Mary Jeanette; his brother Glenn Lee Johnson; his two daughters, Elizabeth Laurano and Margaret Johnson-Bartie; his five grandchildren, Zachariah, Mary, Rose Laurano, and Amanda and Charles Pratt; and his great grandson Liam Laurano. The service and interment will be private. If desired, friends may make a memorial contribution to the American Cancer Society.
