John J. Smith, III

March 22, 1946 - January 10, 2019

John Joseph born March 22, 1946 in Philadelphia, PA., passed away peacefully at home, January 10, 2019. Beloved husband of 43 years to Janet (nee Burton), Son of the late John and Gladys (Stocklas) Smith, brother of the late Gladys F Donnelly (Smith), Jean Donnelly (Smith), brother-in-law to Gail L.Yerkie (Robert), William H Burton (Bobbie), the late Russell F Burton, and Frank P Donnelly Sr., survived by many nieces and nephews. As a youth in Kensington John was a member of the Eden United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir and served as Sunday School Superintendent. John also had the honor of singing with the Mendelssohn Club of Philadelphia. His deep appreciation for all types of music, especially classical, choral, folk, and classic films stayed with him throughout his life. After graduating from Murrell Dobbins Technical High School in 1965, majoring in Architectural Graphics, and earning his associates degree from Temple University, he began a 40 year career as a Drafting Engineer first working at Cutler Metal Products Co. in Camden, NJ and then Thermacon Industries, Inc. in Moorestown, NJ. John was a charter member of the Philadelphia Flyers Fan Club, and an avid fan of the Phillies and Eagles. Contributions in his memory to Habitat for Humanity.
