Date of Notice: Wednesday, November 28, 2012. Burlington County Times, Newsday ( Freeport). James D. Ewen, 86, of Columbus, passed away on Friday, November 23, 2012 at Lourdes Medical Center, Willingboro, NJ. Born in Aberdeen, Scotland, James was a longtime resident of Freeport, Long Island, before moving to Columbus 2 years ago. James was a World War II Veteran, having proudly served his country with the US Navy. He retired from Lynbrook Public School, where he was employed as a custodian for many years. James was a former member of the Freeport Fire and EMS Dept., a 50 years member and Deacon at the Freeport Presbyterian Church, former President of the Freeport Lions Club, and former Board Member of the Freeport Historical Society. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bordentown. James was an avid Mets fan, avid bowler, enjoyed gardening and walking. He was known as "Mr. Fix it" and will be missed greatly for his keen sense of humor. He is survived by his wife Joan I. Ewen; his children Linda Blackwell, Seva Khalsa, Scott Ewen and Todd Ewen; his grandchildren Tara, Bob, Ashley, Bazil, Siri, Jessica and Laura; his great-grandchildren Amani, Fiona, Ryder and Jeremy; many spouses, partners and extended family and friends. A visitation will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2012 from 10-11AM at the 1st Presbyterian Church of Bordentown, 420 Farnsworth Ave., Bordentown, NJ 08505, A memorial service will follow at 11AM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the 1st Presbyterian Church of Bordentown, 420 Farnsworth Ave., Bordentown, NJ 08505 or to St. Jude's Research Hospital 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
