Gregory Francis Smith

Gregory Francis Smith, 69, of Shamong, NJ, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Thursday, August 13, 2015. Born in Jamaica, Queens, NY, Greg resided in Greenwich, CT, Port Washington, L.I., and Medford, NJ, before moving to Shamong in 1994. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran who piloted aircrafts during the Vietnam War. Greg was a 1967 graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy where he received his Bachelor’s Degree. He went on to receive his MBA from Drexel University. He was a Proteus member of MENSA, and an accomplished painter who enjoyed reading, writing and philosophy. Greg also authored a short book on the nature of human consciousness. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Linda (nee Copskey) Smith; his daughter and son-in-law, Holly and Matt St. John; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Stephen and Justine Smith, David Smith, and Andrew and Christi Smith; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Jack and Mary Ellen Smith, and Nelson Smith and his partner Paul Garrard,; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Patricia Boyle, and Kathleen and Mike Colvin; two grandchildren, Rebecca and Ethan St. John; and numerous nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Tuesday, August 18, 2015, from 6-8PM, and again on Wednesday, August 19, from 10-11AM, at the Mathis Funeral Home, 58 N. Main St., Medford, NJ. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, at 11AM, at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Rancocas Quaker Cemetery, Rancocas, NJ. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Gregory’s memory to the American Brain Tumor Association, 8550 W. Bryn Mawr Ave., Ste 550, Chicago, IL 60631.
