Date of Notice: Tuesday, October 4, 2011; Courier Post George E. Schmidt, Jr., 89, of Marlton, passed away on Monday, October 3, 2011 at the Genesis Voorhees Center, Voorhees, NJ. Born in Philadelphia, PA, George was a resident of Marlton for 54 years. He was a Veteran of WWII having proudly served his country with the US Air Force. George was a graduate of Overbrook H.S., where he excelled in Track and Basketball. He received his degree in engineering from Temple University. George retired from US Fidelity & Guarantee Company, where he was employed as an engineer. He was a roller skating coach at various rinks in South Jersey, where he taught dance, figure and freestyle skating. George and his wife Bernie won championships in the dance category of roller skating. Husband of the late Bernadette "Bernie" Schmidt, brother of the late Edna Meredith; he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Robert E. and Patricia R. Schmidt of Marlton; a nephew William Meredith of NY. Relatives and friends may call Friday, October 8, 2011 from 9-10AM at the Mathis Funeral Home, 58 N. Main Street, Medford, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11AM at St. Joan of Arc RCC, Willow Bend Road, Marlton, NJ. Entombment will be held at Locustwood Memorial Park, Cherry Hill, NJ. Arrangements are by the Mathis Funeral Home, Medford, (609) 654-2439. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in George's memory to a charity of the donor's choice.
