Date of Notice: Thursday, January 3, 2013; Burlington County Times Alfred "Hicky" Thomas, 86, of Tabernacle, passed away on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at Virtua Memorial Hospital, Mt. Holly. Alfred was born in Tabernacle, NJ he remained a lifelong resident. He was a Veteran of WWII having proudly served his country with the US Army. Alfred began his carpentry career with Mangus International in Woodbury, NJ before retiring from the NJ Carpenters Union. He worked part-time for Russo's Farm Market. Some of his hobbies included hunting and carpentry work. Alfred was a member of the Vincentown Deer Club and enjoyed out of state hunting with his friends. He was affectionately known as "Pop" by his grandchildren. Son of the late George and Emma Thomas, father of the late George Thomas and Linda Gerber, brother of the late Mary Thomas; he is survived by his wife Esther; his granddaughter and her husband Stacy and Chad Allen; great-grandson Joshua Allen his brother and sister-in-law Frank and Doris Thomas, his sister and brother-in-law Joan and Donald Bowker; many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends can call on Monday, January 7, 2013 from 9:30-11AM at the Mathis Funeral Home 58 N. Main Street, Medford, NJ 08055. A funeral service will follow at 11AM. Interment will follow at Junior Mechanics Cemetery, Tabernacle, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Tabernacle Rescue Squad P.O. Box 2023 Tabernacle, NJ 08088 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
